Chocolate Brownies
October 12, 2006 | permalink

I made brownies in the wee hours of the night a few days ago. While I desperately wanted (and needed) sleep, the insomnia had me, and I couldn't stand to watch another re-run of Without a Trace or The Late Show. So I baked, instead. With much success, I might add; the brownies came out awfully tasty, if I do say so myself.

I prefer mine without nuts, but of course you can add in nuts or whatever else tickles your taste buds without having to alter anything else in the recipe at all.

One Bowl Brownies

  • Two Ounces Bitersweet Chocolate
  • Two Ounces Unsweetened Chocolate
  • One and One Half Sticks of Butter
  • One and One Half Cups Sugar
  • Three Eggs
  • One Cup Flour
  • One Half Cup Cocoa Powder
  • One Teaspoon Vanilla
  • One Teaspoon Salt
  • One Half Tablespoon Baking Powder
Preheat the oven to 350. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate together and stir until completely blended. Remove from heat. Add the sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Fold in the flour a third of a cup at a time and stir until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into a greased and floured pan, 13 x 9. Bake for about 30 minutes, until a knife comes out clean. If you cut the baking a little short, you will get chewier, fudgier brownies; contrary-wise, you will get cakier, drier brownies if you give them a little extra time in the oven.

Good Morning, Starshine

I can't sleep, so I'm watching Spinal Tap (with the commentary on- it's like a whole other movie that way) and fucking around with templates for the site. All the major work on them is done, I think; just minor tweaks because I'm a big geek. I still have a bunch of pages to work up content for, too (a profile page for one; stuff like that), but I don't feel like working on those just now. Plenty of time for that.

Indeed, Gentle Readers, time is something that I have plenty of. I'm in a bit of a unique situation here: I'm on day fifteen of twenty-eight consecutive days without work. I'm nearly certain that this is the most time off I've had all at once since I started working when I was fourteen. If it wasn't for the holidays, I think I would have already gone batshit. I'm not used to such... leisure (In the twenty eight days prior to this unusual break, I had one day off- this is far more typical of my usual schedule).

Not that I haven't tried to be industrious... I'm cleaning the apartment top to bottom, reorganizing bookshelves and closets, and of course I've been building this site... Jesus, I need a life!
